The first "selffilling
pen" used a rubber bladder, the pen sac. The bladder is mounted onto the section of
the pen, then inserted into the barrel, being reservoir and filling system all in one. By
various different techniques, the bladder can be pressed. Then, when released, the bladder
draws ink through the feeder, like a pipette. Of all vintage pens found, this is the most
common filling system from 1905 till 1950 approx. Pen Sacs for pen repairs are to be
found at the Pen Sac Company in the USA. |
